Setting the Course for Memmingen: The 1970s in Discussion

Memmingen's 1970s: City History in Lively Discussion

The event Setting the Course for Memmingen – The 1970s in Discussion invites you on January 19, 2027, to a special historical art experience in a broader sense: At the Antonierhaus, regional memory culture connects with political city history, historical photographs, and personal exchange.

A Formative Era in Retrospect

The 1970s marked a time of important decisions and sustainable changes for Memmingen. Political developments, economic upheavals, new social perspectives, as well as projects in urban development and infrastructure shaped the city's face, with effects continuing into the present.

Memories, Backgrounds, and Controversial Debates

In a moderated discussion format, personalities come together who actively shaped this era or experienced it up close. Personal memories, previously little-known backgrounds, and controversial discussions open up a multifaceted examination of the city’s history.

Historical Photographs from the City Archive

Christoph Engelhard, head of the Memmingen City Archive, complements the evening with selected historical photographs and exciting insights into the city's archive collections. The visual documents vividly illustrate social changes, urban development, and the transformation of urban space.

Dialogue with the Audience

Christoph Engelhard and Michael Trieb will moderate the evening. The audience is invited to contribute their own questions, memories, and perspectives. This creates an open exhibition atmosphere of exchange where cultural education, historical research, and personal experience come together immediately.

Conclusion: Understanding Memmingen Better

Those who wish to rediscover Memmingen from a historical perspective will experience an enlightening evening filled with surprising stories, historical photographs, and personal dialogue. The event demonstrates how decisions from the 1970s continue to influence the cityscape and life in Memmingen today. A recommendable opportunity for all who want to experience regional history in a direct and vibrant way.
